so you can check out the php code in class.mslib_fe.php line 1064 function mailUser(). Set some var_dump and check why the mail is not sent.

It is this line: include(current($stepCodes).'.php');
But $stepCodes is an array. And that could be the problem.

are you sure? the function current returns the value of the triggert element in an array. but anyway, you can var_dump(current($stepCodes)); and see if this makes sense.

I end up with this

string(17) "checkout_finished"

But if I put var_dump($mail); around line 1063 in class.mslib_fe.php I get nothing.

So I think, that the mail function never gets initiated.

put a var_dump($mail); after this line
$mail = new PHPMailer();
thats where the mail Object is initialize. And then go through the lines and check if smtp ist set
$GLOBALS['TYPO3_CONF_VARS']['MAIL']['transport']
and all other Parameters. at this line
if(!$mail->Send()) return 0;
the mail is send. you could check var_dump($mail->Send());die(); if it is 0 no mail where send if the value is 1 the mail is send. in this case you should check if the typo3 can send mails, e.g. Install Tool Test Mail.

The webhotel was setup to use mail(); shouldn't that work?
I have changed it to SMTP and now the order_confirmation comes through.

Thank you so much for your time an patience.
